INTRODUCING OUR FREE TEXTBOOKS PROMOTION
Really? Free?
Yes! Our Free Textbooks offer is an investment in you. Concordia Portland has agreed to assume the costs of textbooks, E-books and other required materials and their shipping costs for all MEd students who start on March 25, 2019 and all EdD students who start on March 4, 2019.
Will “suggested” or “non-required” supplemental reading materials also be free?
No. The free textbook offer applies to required reading materials only. Students who wish to purchase copies of suggested and/or supplemental resources will still need to do so at their own expense.
How will it work?
Students will be issued a “Shop By Schedule” order from Concordia University-Portland’s online bookstore, MBS Direct, via email two weeks prior to their start date (or at the point of registration if they register within two weeks of the start date), which will indicate they have a book order “pending their review” before it can be processed and shipped. For the initial order, a login and password will be generated. Once logged in, students will verify the course and textbook information is correct, confirm their shipping address, and submit for processing.
The students will not be responsible for selecting courses, books, or shipping methods. Their book choices will be loaded into their portal prior to the email being sent; the main purpose will be address verification.
The students will receive a similar email two weeks before each course start date to verify the order and shipping information.
How do I qualify for free textbooks?
Complete all of your application materials, be admitted to the Master of Education or Doctorate of Education degree program and enroll to start on March 25, 2019 for MEd or March 4, 2019 for EdD.
I have already started my degree at Concordia University-Portland. Do I get free textbooks now?
No. The Free Textbook offer is for new students who are enrolling for the first time at Concordia University-Portland and are starting their program on March 25, 2019 (MEd) or March 4, 2019 (EdD).
Are shipping costs covered?
Yes, ground shipping is covered for all orders over $49.00. Expedited shipping options are available by request and are processed at the student’s own expense.
Can I keep the E-books?
E-book access is controlled with a license from the publisher. In most cases, the license is good for 180 or 365 days after delivery, depending on the publisher. Access to the materials will expire at the end of the licensing period. Concordia University cannot extend the license on the student’s behalf and the student will need to purchase access to the materials for themselves if they need, or want, to extend.
What if I withdraw from the program?
Students who withdraw from the program forfeit the opportunity to continue receiving free textbooks. Students on a Leave of Absence will be unable to order new books until they return from Leave and re-enter their program.

The Free Textbooks promotion is being offered for the March 25, 2019 (MEd) and March 4, 2019 (EdD) start dates. Concordia Portland reserves the right to extend the promotion, but cannot guarantee availability beyond these start dates at this time.
